It is a very interesting observation made by one of America’s top most health professionals. Dr. Robert Redfield heads USA’s Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), its apex medical body.
In fact, the CDC Director answers a major confounding factor that has been playing on in the minds of many of us. How come USA, a global leader in healthcare, is also leading in Covid19 cases and deaths? Dr. Robert Redfield says one reason for this phenomenon is that Americans are not as healthy as those in other nations.
If you know the numbers, this is not surprising at all. 10.5% of Americans have diabetes, while 42% of adults and 18% of children in USA are obese. The numbers of those suffering from other chronic conditions, especially autoimmune disorders, are also high. All these translate to be co-morbidities with Covid-19 infection and that should explain the massive level of complications and deaths seen in US so far.
In other words, a nation which has the best healthcare facilities, best doctors and best health insurance schemes, and which is the cradle of cutting-edge medical research through its renowned medical universities, has put up the worst performance in this pandemic, just because of a simple reason – the citizens are not healthy.
This sobering fact should motivate us to take charge of our own health during this challenging period, which I stress throughout in my new book, ‘The Making of Superhumans’. Do check it out, as I also discuss in the book the comprehensive ways to take charge of our health, from ancient wisdom to next-generation diagnostics and personalized lifestyle modifications.
