If you ask me, “Sajeev, what is the thing which is continuously driving you in your life?” I would say HOPE. To achieve any goal or to become successful in life, one needs to have the motivation. The word motivation itself has got the meaning within it. ‘MOTIVE’ means aim or goal. Hence motivation happens only when one is driven towards a motive. The motive or the goal combined with hope ignites the fire within you.
There are some people who have goals but no hope; means they cannot see themselves achieving those goals. There are few others, who have high hopes about the life but no clear goals. Even when I was studying in a typical Malayalam Medium Government School, what made me to move ahead was some kind of hope in my life. Though I used to feel inferior whenever I interact with my friends in the tuition class, who were from English Medium Schools, something was driving me. During my high school days my father used to ask me what I would want to become, for which I never had any answers. I never had any goals. But still I was very sure that I would become something in life. This was a hope. I used to dream myself playing in Indian Cricket team. In my dreams I had sung some of the best songs for movies. Even I had directed many world class movies in my mind, while keeping the history book open in front of me. I knew that one day I would become someone! A great hope, which kept me dreaming all the time. But there were no goals. Even there was no one to give me proper guidance.
It was during my final year graduation my dad inspired me to set a goal; to get admission for MBA. Unlike nowadays when you have B-schools in every nook and corner of the country, during those days we had very few B-schools. Hence getting admission for MBA was a herculean task. Though I was clean bowled in the first admission test, primarily because of my incompetency in English, my father forced me to come out of the weakness by improving English. Two years of consistent effort in improving my English made me to achieve the goal; I got admission for MBA.
Yes, I could achieve it only because I had a goal or rather my dad inspired me to have a goal. But what gave me the confidence to set such a goal was the hope I was having in my life. The hope that there was something big and great in store for me.
One needs to sow the seeds of GOALS in the field of HOPE to harvest the desired results. As you know the quantity and quality of the harvest will be based on the quality and quantity of the seeds and that of the field
